Oysternut

In collaboration with an increasing number of farmers in Mukono, we are actively promoting the cultivation of Oysternut (Telfairia occidentalis) within existing agroforestry models. Oysternut’s robust growth and versatile applications make it a valuable addition to sustainable agricultural practices. Oysternut addresses environmental challenges by controlling erosion, regulating water levels, and enhancing soil quality through its extensive root system. With a rapid growth cycle and consistent harvests, Oysternut provides farmers with a sustainable, year-round income source, requiring minimal replanting. Beyond its nutrient-rich seeds, Oysternut vines contribute to construction materials and various household appliances, fostering local industry development. This initiative aims to empower Mukono farmers, promoting resilient livelihoods and sustainable environmental practices in the region.
